It’s finally here! The day we’ve been talking about all week long has finally arrived and it’s time to celebrate!!! Happy Earth Day 2011 from The Godfrey Group! All week long we’ve been showing you how to turn your next trade show presentation into one that is earth friendly with the help of our environmentally friendly trade show displays. Today we want to want to cap things off with a campaign that is sure to change the world for generations to come.
It’s called The Billion Acts of Green campaign and it’s more than just a way to show your support for all things earthy friendly, it’s a movement that is destined to show the entire world that change can happen. Kicking off in 2010 during the 40th anniversary of the first Earth Day, The Billion Acts of Green is a campaign in which ordinary people just like you and me pledge to take action to save the environment one act at a time with the goal of reaching 1 Billion acts by the start of the 2012 U.N. Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012.
This is your chance as an a small business owner, as a trade show traveler, and an individual concerned about the effects of the population on the environment to step up and commit to taking steps to make this world a better place. Just check out some of the things others like yourself are committing to doing:
*Switching to energy efficient light bulbs
*Riding their bikes to work
*Planting a community garden
*Buying from local farmers
Now that we know what others are doing, what can you do as a small business owner? Right away we know a couple of things, switching to an environmentally friendly display or a trade show display that is lightweight and will cut back on travel expense (which leads to less gas being use). How about scheduling events which are close together and eliminating some of the back & forth trips? Next time why not filling your information displays with brochures made from recycled paper? The trick is to be creative and stick with your commitment. Together one day soon we will be one billion strong united in our support for world change!

Trade shows can be stressful for the most seasoned of professionals to say the least. For those just starting out they can be a downright nightmare. You want to be prepared before you arrive so you immediately start doing your homework; the demographics of those attending the event, what they will be looking for, the best way to present your product to them. In terms of exhibit design, you’ve worked for months with a designer and have created a custom built trade show display that is sure to be a home run. Featuring your company’s unique logo and complete with tons of counter space, room to demo products, and a place to pass out brochures; from a design standpoint everything is just how you imagined it. The big day shows up, the doors open, people begin to flood the convention center…and…and suddenly you freeze. Your mind goes blank, the color drops out of your face, and you’re as lifeless as a cardboard cutout.
Everyone lets their nerves get the better of them at times and stage fright happens to everyone at some point. The trick is to know how to shake yourself out of it and turn a terrifying situation into a successful trade show.
Tips For Shaking Stage Fright
- 1) Know it when you see it- It’s easy to fall into a trance and continue stammering along in some type of shock. The hard part is knowing when you are losing control, accept what is happening, and quickly regain that confidence that got you to where you are.
- 2) Don’t imagine the worst- Focus on the moment, take a few deep breaths, and lean on what you know. Nobody knows your product better then you do, so fall back on all that knowledge and tell those customer why you are about to change their world
- 3) Relax- Sure it seems impossible when you are there in the deep end, but by taking a step back and gaining some composure, in no time you’ll start to have some fun. Don’t get so caught up in the pressure associated with the event being a success and just let things happen. In no time your personality will start showing through and people will be lining up to see what you have to offer.
So many times we put these tremendous levels of pressure on our backs and expect the world to change overnight. Remember to relax, take a step back if you need to, stay focused on what you know, and don’t forget that success isn’t always instantaneous.

In a post we recently brought you concerning the rising cost of gas and how it is sure to effect how much you are going to be able to get out of that travel budget during the coming year, we mentioned that one great way to save on travel expenses was to choose a type of trade show display such as a table top or tension wall that is made of ultra-lightweight materials and consequently less expensive to transport from one location to the next. If you think about it though that when it comes down to it while using a lighter display is definitely one sure way to save cash, it’s certainly not the only way. One might also consider the use of an information display as a way to limit the number of people that you have working the show.
Certainly there’s no substituting what two people can accomplish at a trade show, however in drastic times drastic measure become necessary. Consider what it costs to send one employee to an event: there’s the cost of an extra bed or room, salary and wages, and of course that one thing that literally eats up the entire budget i.e. food and snacks. Again it helps to have an extra employee to simply ensure that there is always somebody at the booth, but what if you could find a way to cut back on costs by only sending one person without sacrificing too much in the way of customer coverage. An information display featuring optional audio/video mounts can be so effective it’s like having that extra employee working the booth at a fraction of the cost.
Regardless of whether you prefer an info kiosk, a star rotator info board, a portable workstation, or unique Post-n-Panel; each offers the ability to allow for a wide variety of brochures and information packets to be passed out to all those that would like to know more about what you have to offer. Plus imagine how much money can be saved by sending an information display that doesn’t require food and lodging like a real person!
If you are feeling the pinch of the latest economic downturn and are looking for a way to save some cash, information booths from Godfrey are the key to some major savings.

The display went up in seconds with no problems. Within minutes you were able to unload everything, find your assigned spot at the convention center, and assemble that custom designed trade show exhibit made especially for you. Complete with a couple pedestals, an information display, a couple video monitors, and of course your logo featured prominently in several locations, it’s hard to argue that you’ve got one of the best looking exhibits at the event. Knowing it’s not all about the look of the display though, you have made sure to cover all the bases. Weeks were spent going over every fine detail of the product line you will be presenting, calls and emails were sent in advance to generate some early buzz about where you will be, you’ve even placed a couple banners out front to let those coming know where to find you.
Suddenly you hit a string of bad luck. You get nudged on the way back from getting coffee and spill it all over your pants. You run out to the truck to find something to clean up with only to realize you have a flat tire. On your way back you notice someone has stolen one of your better priced items and of course nobody saw anything. Needless to say before the day even starts going good your attitude is far less than positive. As the day progresses you begin speaking to a lot of potential customers. The convention center is full, but for some reason you are barely able to squeak out more than five minutes of anyone’s time. In frustration you begin to look around at your exhibit for what the problem could be….only the problem isn’t the display it’s your attitude.
We all have bad days and tribulations we must go through, but the best looking display in the world will only do so much good if the attitude it is presented with stinks. It’s extremely important to set aside all those bad vibes and focus on the customer when those doors open and people start piling in. Another thing to remember is that a positive attitude shouldn’t be confined to the area of your exhibit. People notice more than we tend to give them credit for and it’s not unreasonable to say that potential customers were nearby when that cup of hot coffee got spilled on you, when you screamed because of that flat tire, and when you feverishly attempted to hunt down a would be thief. All that planning you did weeks before the event and that custom designed display will only go so far if you present them to the customer in a sarcastic or unfriendly manner.
The next time you get ready to start your day dealing with potential customers, think about your attitude and make sure to be positive!

Have you ever been at a trade show and wished for the one thing that only an insane person would expect to have with hundreds of people walking past at any given time. Today we are talking about privacy which is something that you are ensured never to get during a trade show. Given you are there to sell sell sell and the whole purpose of a trade show is to get your name out by talking to as many people as possible, but still there are always those times when you can’t help but think that if you could just have a few moments of privacy with an individual it would surely lead to a sale. After all a little one on one time goes a long way to establishing that all important relationship that is essentially the foundation of any sale not to mention any reoccurring sale.
Godfrey understands this need for a place to sit out and spend some one on one time with a potential client and that’s why we are proud to offer you what is essentially a portable conference room. Sure you can still have all that show room space with your exhibit featuring a wide variety of pedestals, hanging racks, video monitors, information displays, etc…but now you will also have the ability to take those customers you want to spend some extra time with back to a private enclosed area complete with fabric walls, a small portable conference table, and chairs so you can sit back and get down to business.
When building those all important business relationships sometimes you need to get away from all the chaos and noise that a trade show brings in order to be able to really get a sense of what the customer is looking for. With a portable conference room from Godfrey you will be getting just that!

It may seem kinda silly to be talking about 2011 what with Thanksgiving being tomorrow and all, but the fact is the time to get ready for next year’s trade show is today. A great looking trade show display doesn’t happen overnight, but instead takes time in order to ensure that you are getting exactly what you need to set yourself apart from your competitor. At Godfrey from the very moment you contact a personal project manager a constant dialog is established which allows you to voice your opinion on color, design, style, accessories, and keeps you up to date every step of the way as the display or exhibit is created. The most important decision though is as old as time itself, “What do people want?” In hopes of shedding some light on this continuous dilemma, today we are going to take out the old crystal ball and tell you what we think will be the hottest trade show trends for 2011
*Value over price- It used to be that price was king, but these days with the economy picking up steam consumers are just as interested in the value they will receive by purchasing a product as they are by what they will have to pay for it. Grand fabric exhibits and custom built pop-ups will definitely help you get your point across, but the key for today’s consumer is letting them touch, feel, and taste your product first hand in order to convince them that you are offering a quality product.
*Social Media and the pressures of friendship- Forget phone calls and mail-outs, the trick to getting your target market’s attention is reaching them where they live and that’s on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. These are the places where we find out what our best friends and favorite celebrities are tripping over themselves to get to; where our favorite restaurants are offering special promotions for following along on their sites. At your next event make sure to add a couple of spaces to that ledger you have set up at your information booth to include ways to reach them via social networking sites and email
*Meeting expectations- With so many products flooding the market, in order to separate yourself from the competition one of the most important things that have to be done is you have to meet the expectations of your customers. Not only does every bell and whistle need to be laid out and easy to use, but they must be of high quality. This is where an audio/video display proves invaluable in that you have the ability to showcase every aspect of your product in a eye capturing format.

Earlier in the week we brought you a post all about information displays and how they have the ability to transform into any number of displays depending on what a company needs most. Today’s discussion is going to get back to the idea of information displays being suited for many tasks, but specifically we want to discuss the value of an electronic message system. In today’s world information is key to being successful no matter what business you are in. As individuals we want the latest and greatest news and product info in our hands the moment it happens. It’s as if the time spent having to look for something is time wasted that could be used somewhere else. What an electronic message sign does is it gives people all that they need to know the moment they walk into a building or enter an event. These types of information displays can be used effectively to keep people safe, direct them to where they need to go, or to alert them to an emergency that that requires their immediate attention.
Electronic message displays are programmed by a hand held IR pad or computer, have the ability to store 160 characters per page with 90 pages available, and each page can contain as many as 8 lines consisting of 1.2” characters. Measuring at 26.75” wide, 73” hi, 4.5” deep, using only 90 watts of power, and featuring letters available in red, yellow, or green; this type of information display can be used at many locations including:
- The Bank or other public places to provide the hours of operation, notify visitors of weekly specials or rates, or announce new locations
- Hotels to provide vacancy info, special events that are taking place, or rules and regulations
- Trade shows to point visitors to certain areas of the event or by vendors as a way to give directions to their specific demonstration
- Government offices or on freeway overhangs to provide info on Amber Alerts, impending bad weather conditions, or construction zones up ahead
If information is king than the ability to dispense that information in hopes of saving people time, keeping them safe, and helping to make their lives easier is certainly something that should be looked upon favorably. By adding a company’s custom logo and name to the top of the message they are essentially telling the reader that they care about them and there is something they must know. This concern is then translated into sales when the consumer begins to feel that a relationship exists between them and the company and a bond of trust is created. An electronic messaging display may sound simple, but the information it can provide is priceless when it is used to make a connection with a potential customer.
