It may seem kinda silly to be talking about 2011 what with Thanksgiving being tomorrow and all, but the fact is the time to get ready for next year’s trade show is today. A great looking trade show display doesn’t happen overnight, but instead takes time in order to ensure that you are getting exactly what you need to set yourself apart from your competitor. At Godfrey from the very moment you contact a personal project manager a constant dialog is established which allows you to voice your opinion on color, design, style, accessories, and keeps you up to date every step of the way as the display or exhibit is created. The most important decision though is as old as time itself, “What do people want?” In hopes of shedding some light on this continuous dilemma, today we are going to take out the old crystal ball and tell you what we think will be the hottest trade show trends for 2011
*Value over price- It used to be that price was king, but these days with the economy picking up steam consumers are just as interested in the value they will receive by purchasing a product as they are by what they will have to pay for it. Grand fabric exhibits and custom built pop-ups will definitely help you get your point across, but the key for today’s consumer is letting them touch, feel, and taste your product first hand in order to convince them that you are offering a quality product.
*Social Media and the pressures of friendship- Forget phone calls and mail-outs, the trick to getting your target market’s attention is reaching them where they live and that’s on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. These are the places where we find out what our best friends and favorite celebrities are tripping over themselves to get to; where our favorite restaurants are offering special promotions for following along on their sites. At your next event make sure to add a couple of spaces to that ledger you have set up at your information booth to include ways to reach them via social networking sites and email
*Meeting expectations- With so many products flooding the market, in order to separate yourself from the competition one of the most important things that have to be done is you have to meet the expectations of your customers. Not only does every bell and whistle need to be laid out and easy to use, but they must be of high quality. This is where an audio/video display proves invaluable in that you have the ability to showcase every aspect of your product in a eye capturing format.

This week Neiman Marcus premiered it’s 2010 Christmas book. If you are not familiar with the book which is enjoying its 84th year in publication its basically filled with gifts that few in the country can afford. Below is a list of the Top 6 unusual items featured in this year’s catalog:
1. MetroShip Houseboat- Coming in at a cool $250k the 48 foot by 12 foot floating castle not only comes with a twin 60 horsepower Honda outboards, but includes some of the best appliances and electronics on the market.
2. Charm Bracelet- Not just your ordinary nickel and dime charm bracelet this 18-karat white and yellow gold wonder is encircled with diamonds and will run you $248k
3. 2011 Limited Edition Camaro- Only 100 of these were made so if you’ve got $75k laying around you better scoop one up before it’s too late
4. Tory Burch Trike- Less like a tricycle and more like a rickshaw the pedals are pure ornamental as the trike features a clean energy electric motor.
5. Edible Gingerbread Playhouse- Remember those tiny gingerbread playhouses your mom use to make when you were a kid? Well take that idea and increase the size by 500%. At a height of 6.6 feet and featuring 381 pounds of gingerbread this is cooking at its extreme
6. Dale Chihuly Pool- One of the most expensive gifts featured in this year’s catalog with a price tag of $1.5 mil, this 22×12 foot glass art instillation does not even include the price of the pool.
Now you may remember that this week we are talking about redesigning that showroom and retail space with the help of the DeskWrap and Bizwall systems. At first the items listed above may not appear to tie into this theme, but when you consider what is being accomplished through placing these items in the Neiman Marcus catalog then the connection is quite clear.
What these items have in common with customized partition panels and ultra-modern interiors is that they not only set Neiman Marcus apart from the thousands of other retail stores across the country, they create such a buzz that people flock from all over the world just to catch a glimpse of all that the company has to offer. This same sense of wonder and the ability to create buzz should be the main goal of any redesign. With sleek lines, tons of available options, and hundreds of designs to choose from, the Bizwall system sets out to do just what offering a $250k boathouse in your Christmas catalog does; it grabs people’s attention and refuses to let go until they find out who you are and what other mind blowing items you have to offer.

We’ve talked a lot about first impressions lately specifically how to execute the perfect handshake and the importance of remembering first names, both of which are extremely important when attempting to build a relationship with a customer. If you are salesman who travels all across the country bouncing from one meeting after another, then probably more than anyone else you know how important it is to be prepared when meeting a new client for the first time. A good salesman has to somehow find a way to put all that stress from the hours they were delayed at the airport, the horrible taxi cab ride over, not to mention the busted elevator, and present themselves with confidence to the customer.
The last thing a salesman has time for is to fiddle around with a display that requires a degree from M.I.T. to setup. Instead they need something that takes little effort and time, yet looks like it cost a million bucks. The ShowMax Table Top Display does all of this without sacrificing the quality that people have come to expect from Godfrey. What makes the ShowMax simply the best portable table top display on the market isn’t the fact that it gets one or two things right, but that it succeeds on several levels including:
- Portability- The ShowMax is extremely lightweight and features two in-line skate wheels allowing for easy transport. Plus it folds up into a convenient size complete with a handle at the top.
- Setup- Simply unfold the case, attach a custom designed header, a couple halogen lights at the top, and in seconds your presentation is ready to commence
- Quality- Like all of Godfrey’s displays and exhibits, the ShowMax is custom built to the customer specifications. This means that the customer decides just how much detail they want the display to have and which of the Velcro ready fabrics work best for their particular needs.
Available with optional transport bag, the ShowMax Table Top Display is the perfect display for anyone who finds themselves having to give presentations repeatedly and is in need of a quick and easy display made from the highest quality materials.

As a vendor it’s your job to attract the customer’s attention any way you can. It’s not uncommon to see everything from scantily clad models to circus clowns making their way through an event in support of a company. And let’s face it most trade shows do have that circus atmosphere what with all the loud music, flashing lights, and costumed characters running around. While this type of guerilla marketing does attract attention, it tends to take the customer’s eye away from what the main focus should be and that’s what the vendor’s message is. The result of being the life of the party is that once the show is over, very few in attendance will remember less about who put on the event and more about the guys juggling the flaming chainsaws. Not that prop games such football toss or Plinko don’t have their place at a trade show. After all, the most important thing is getting that foot in the door. With that said though vendors need to remember that through all the glitz and glitter if the customer doesn’t walk away with the sponsor’s name on their tongue, all that shock and awe missed its target.
Believe it or not there are other qualities that customers appreciate in the company’s they do business with rather than providing them with a good time. Among those traits honesty is considered one of the highest. For some adverting and honesty may be on completely separate ends of the spectrum, but if you’re a consumer looking to spend a large sum of money in a time when our nation’s economy is leaving everyone counting pennies; being honest is a breath of fresh air. An example of this can be seen this week in a recent full page ad featuring the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves who continuously seem to be disappointing fans with one losing season after another. In the letter the team president tells fans “We now have more shooting, athleticism and depth at every position, which will make us a better team this season. So will we challenge for the NBA championship this year? Not likely. Ouch. This honesty thing is a bit painful. But the reality is, we still need that one dominant player…..We are confident, however, that this team will be exciting to watch. For the first time in years Wolves fans are going to feel like they’re missing out if they aren’t in the arena. So in addition to player development we’re working hard on fan development, starting with variable pricing and Flex Pack ticket packages that let you pick the games and seats that you want. The bottom line for fans is: We’re making it easier than ever for you to be part of our turnaround.”
Instead of fireworks and magicians, consider an approach similar to the Timberwolves: Custom built fabric walls, soft lighting behind a backdrop of hand selected images, a hanging banner overhead, a conference table to the side, a few chairs for visitors, and a video monitor providing constant information on how your product will change the lives of all who try it. All of this covered in eye catching colors and featuring your company’s name and logo emblazoned in multiple places. No tricks. Nothing to disguise who you are. Just an honest approach at presenting yourself to the customer.

According to some historians the handshake dates all the way back to the days of Camelot when kings and knights would shake a person’s hand in order to make sure no weapons were being concealed. Today the handshake is a sign of respect, a gesture indicating that a deal is done, and for some it’s just as much an indication of who a person is as anything that is being said by them. A proper handshake takes practice and isn’t something you do half heartedly, it takes a commitment to the action and a lack thereof could lead to a major miscommunication.
Types Of Common Handshake Errors
- Make sure you get in there- When shaking hands you want to make sure you complete the motion so that the hands are pressing together in equal proportions. If you don’t commit, the person you are introducing yourself to may get a handful of fingers and it could appear that you are not interested in meeting them.
- Avoid sweaty palms- There’s nothing worse than to stick your hand out only to be met with a cold sweaty hand. Sweaty palms could indicate that the person is nervous or lacks confidence. One good trick for avoiding this is to keep a tissue in your pocket at all times and occasionally stick your hand inside to keep them dry.
- The shake is not a test of strength- While you definitely don’t want to extend a limp wrist to a person you are introducing yourself too, trying to break their hand won’t do you any favors either. The trick is to be firm without squeezing in such away to cause any type of discomfort. A firm handshake exudes confidence, will power, strength, and a bit of attitude. Remember that it’s important to not over due it without appearing weak at the same time.
A good handshake has the ability to make every first impression a good one similar to the way that a custom designed trade show exhibit can also make a person feel an immediate connection with a company. Whether your company is in the market for something portable and easy to put up, an exhibit for outdoor use, or want to show how much they care about the planet by purchasing an environmentally friendly trade show display; Godfrey has just the thing you need to turn that all important first impression into the start of a beautiful friendship.

We all know that trade show vendors will go to extraordinary lengths to attract attention to their booths. Far beyond custom displays and game props many vendors feel that the best way to attract attention is by putting a pretty face in front of their booths. While an attractive person will definitely get you attention, it may not be the kind you want. In fact scantily clad models bring about three very distinct problems that are hard to get around if you are vendor looking to utilize this type of marketing:
•1. They draw the wrong crowd. The main problem with using a model as the main way to sell your product is that it gets everyone’s attention. Every company has a target market in mind for their product. A segment of the population that they feel is the perfect fit for their product. By placing a model in front of your display, instead of zeroing in on that target market you may find yourself wasting huge amounts of time on people who are just there to see a pretty face and don’t have any interest in what you have to offer.
•2. They ruin your clean image. First impressions mean everything and they are often virtually impossible to reverse because you almost never get a second shot at talking to the customer. If a visitor walks by your booth and sees a model that could be considered inappropriately dressed, that customer could immediately classify you as a company that is less than family friendly. When designing a display for a trade show you want to be as professional as possible at all times. You want custom fabrics, clean lines, and quality video presentations. By putting a less than wholesome face in front of the exhibit you are alienating a large portion of the population.
•3. They distort your message. Once you consider all of the expenses that are involved in getting to, setting up, and promoting yourself at a trade show, the last thing you can afford to do is have people walk away from your booth not knowing what you are all about. Again using a model may get bring the crowd your way, but moments later if asked visitors to your booth might be able to remember what the model looked like, but not what she was there to sell. Models get in the way of what you are there to do and that is burn your company’s name in the minds of hundreds of consumers.
Instead of using a model to promote a product, the best move is to invest in a custom built multicolored trade show display that only Godfrey can provide. With a wide variety of kiosks, hanging headers, and pop-up displays to choose from; Godfrey is the answer to all your trade show woes.

Back in the 80′s a little square by the name of Rubik’s cube took over the country like a wildfire. What was initially created to help architecture students learn something about how structures can flow and move within an area, has since sold millions to date and even has it’s own National Championship competition each year. This idea that you can take something that looks whole such as a Rubik’s Cube with each side containing all the same colors and turn it into something new is a concept that allows for many different designs to be made from the same materials. When discussing trade show displays a couple of variations of this idea can been seen with the Post-n-Panel system and the Brightwall Modular System.
The Post-N-Panel System is a series of panels that can be molded into any number of shapes thanks to a series of interlocking clips. Whether it be a straight wall design, a triangular shape that you have in mind, or a cubicle style structure; with this type of display a vendor can literally mold the exhibit to fit any space. The Post-N-Panel system can also be utilized to create a conference room that can be taken down or reassembled in a moments notice. Panels variations include clear or smoke and have the option to include a velcro attachment that will allow that panels to be covered with custom graphics and logos. If a vendor tends to see the same people several times a year, the panels or the shape can be changed around to appear as an entirely diffent display.
The Brightwall Modular System takes the idea of panels that can be transformed to fit any type of shape or size and literally breaks it down into tiny pieces. The Brightwall system is a series of 2′x2′ squares that are easily attached to one another and in terms of designs is only limited by the imagination of the vendor. Each front facing panel can combine to feature one large image or can each contain their own independent image giving the entire structure a montage effect. With options that include back lighting to add depth or even a 3-D effect that has the ability to make it appear as though the image is changing depending on where the eye is, the Brightwall system is just about as customized as they come.
Trade show vendors and visitors are alike in that at some point they all want to see something new and exciting. A vendor that travels to a different show every month will get just as discouraged by a display they have built three dozen times before as the consumer will of seeing the same exhibit over and over again. With the Post-N-Panel and Brightwall Modular systems, the very same idea behind Rubik’s cube is utilized to create a display that it limitless when it comes to what can be created.

Literature or information displays are a pretty common topic on this blog simply because they are the perfect addition to any type of trade show exhibit. One thing vendors may not realize though is that while the basic structure may not
change much, these types of modular displays have the ability to be customized into hundreds of different variations. In fact the only thing stopping an information display from meeting all a vendors needs their own idea as to what they really want. Information displays have the flexibility to be used for point of sale purposes, as retail or lobby fixtures, or as a way of collecting contacts and leads. Information displays are more than just stands used to hold brochures and other pieces of literature, they have the ability to be easily be transformed int0 workstations for vendors that desire visitors to enter information into a PC such as applications or contact forms.
Sandwiched between two custom designed fabric banners; a standard information display has several options such as:
- *A canopy and light system that puts a spotlight on the items being showcased
- *Video monitor capabilities
- *Lightbox options
- *Various shelving and peg board options
- *Attachable literature clips and pockets
- *Various face designs such as wood grain, metallic, velcro fabric, or any number of laminate colors
- *The ability to swivel

Information displays have the ability to take several small ideas and combine them into one amazing display perfect to fit all your trade show needs. Made up of light weight materials and easy to install if a company is looking for a point of sale terminal to go into their showroom or has a need for a portable literature stand with video capabilities, an information display is sure to increase sales and brand awareness for all that take advantage of it’s flexibility.

The first official day of college football is less than a month away and where I’m from that means tailgate season is upon us. In the south college football doesn’t just last 5-6 months of the year, in Alabama it’s a 365 day discussion that never stops. On any given Saturday from September through the first of January malls are deserted, parks are left abandoned and empty, and the only people on the streets are those trying desperately to get home in time to catch the second half. If you’re a retailer or any type of event planner than the only way you can guarantee that people will show is the promise that they won’t have to miss the big game. I’ve been to both weddings and funerals where somewhere tucked in the corner of a room you could find a dozen men and women alike applauding a completed touchdown pass.
If you’re a trade show vendor and you know that your target market is full of die-hard football fanatics, then one sure fire way to get them to show up in droves is to contact them in advance and promise them a tailgate party with all the fix’ins. In order to throw a successful tailgate party the most important thing you need to focus on is atmosphere. With a few clicks of a button you can be on your way to creating a Grand Fabric structure that resembles a football stadium with your company’s logo emblazoned all around. The next thing you need is food. Think hot-wings, burgers, hot-dogs, and tons of potato chips complete with enough soda to drown an elephant. For special VIP customers throw a juicy steak on your portable grill and serve it all under the appropriately named Mushroom Kiosk that will give you plenty of counter space.
Now all you got to do give the people what they came to see and that’s the game itself. The Truss Me system with its monitor mount option and a dependable WiFi connection will give you the ability to blast the game all across the conference room floor. Throw a literature stand in the mix so everyone has a chance to learn about who sponsored the awesome party, a pedestal for all to leave their contact info, and what you have is tailgate party that gets the people out of their recliners and into your custom built trade show exhibit!!
